Moving Insurance & Damage Claims
Moving Insurance & Damage Claims
Moving insurance is designed to safeguard your possessions against damage or loss that might occur during the move.
You have three main options for moving insurance:
Standard valuation is included with every move and provides liability coverage of $0.60 per pound per item. This typically covers repair costs but not replacement. While Ameritex Movers maintains a damage claim rate below 1%, we suggest purchasing additional coverage for particularly valuable or delicate items. Alternatively, consider moving these items yourself if feasible.
For full replacement coverage, consider contacting Bakers International or MovingInsurance. Both offer 100% replacement cost coverage, and it’s wise to arrange this at least 48 hours before your move. Please note these companies are independent and not affiliated with Ameritex Movers.

Your existing homeowners’ insurance may already cover your move, including items in storage. Check your policy to see if it provides this coverage, which can help you avoid extra costs. If not covered, your provider may refer you to third-party insurers.
Moving insurance is crucial for several reasons:
- Protection for Belongings: It covers your items in case they are damaged, lost, or stolen, preventing you from incurring repair or replacement costs.
- Peace of Mind: Insurance can ease stress by ensuring your belongings are protected throughout the move.
- Legal Requirement: Some movers are required by law to offer basic liability coverage, but this may not be sufficient. Additional insurance provides more comprehensive protection.
- Coverage Options: Choose the coverage that best suits your needs, such as full value protection or minimal coverage at no extra cost.
- Unexpected Events: Insurance helps protect you financially against unforeseen incidents.
It’s best to secure moving insurance before finalizing your move, especially if you’re transporting valuable or fragile items. This ensures that your belongings are covered throughout the entire moving process.
A Bill of Lading is a crucial document in shipping and transportation. It acts as a receipt, a contract of carriage, and a document of title, detailing the terms and conditions of the transportation agreement between the shipper and the carrier.
To file a claim, send a written request to our claims department. We conduct a thorough inspection of your items, both by our movers and yourself, with the final inspection being your responsibility. After the move, you’ll sign a Bill of Lading acknowledging the condition of your goods and premises. You have 90 days from the move’s completion to submit a claim. We will acknowledge receipt within 20 days and resolve it within 90 days. Include your name, job number, a clear description of damages, photographs, and a summary of events if known. Note that Ameritex Movers may inspect damages personally, and missing information may delay processing, as our Claims department will not follow up for additional details.
