While autumn may be arriving in other parts of the country, Labor Day weekend in Houston still feels like the peak of summer.

Long weekends might mean the chance to sleep in, but they also mean more opportunities to try something new. Go explore another part of Houston or partake in one of the many activities happening around town.

Labor Day Weekend in Houston

From playing in parks to community events, Houston is full of activities begging to be discovered. Check out these five fun ideas for enjoying Labor Day in Houston.

1. Visit Discovery Green

Labor Day in Houston means more time to be outside. Be sure to check out STEM Saturday, a fun, hands-on Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics education program. This week, kids will use NASA’s experimental wing concept to create an aerodynamic and efficient glider. This event is limited to 40, so be sure to get there early.

Discovery Green also hosts Hatha Yoga, Young Writers Workshop, and Recycling Saturdays on Saturday throughout the day. On Sunday, you can join Tai Chi class or Sundays in the Park. For a full list of what’s happening and their respective times, visit the Discovery Green events page.

2. Wake Nation/Altitude H20

If the couch potato life isn’t your style, then Wake Nation just might be the spot for you this Labor Day in Houston. It’s a premiere adventure park with cable system wakeboarding and a ropes obstacle course. Inside Wake Nation is Altitude H20, a floating water park where trampolines meet water. Children over the age of 6 are welcome to slip, slide, run, and jump on this impressive aqua course.

3. Color Your Weekend

With a different activity every day, Color Your Weekend is a great way to spend Labor Day in Houston. Friday night is White Linen Night for those 21 years and up, which opens with a silent auction and artist meet and greet. Spend Saturday with the whole family playing with splatter art and other fun activities. Color Your Weekend ends Sunday with a community mural and free coloring books.

4.  The Heights Morning Market

Enjoy a gathering of local artisans, farmers, and entrepreneurs while you enjoy brunch at The Heights Morning Market. This is a Sunday-only event hosted at the Onion Creek Cafe between 10 am and 2 pm. Feel good about buying handmade trinkets over coffee or mimosas. It’s a good way to spend your morning, get a few steps in, and support fellow Houstonians.

5. Watch a Drive-In Movie

If you’re more of a night owl, visit Houston’s drive-in movie theater, The Showboat, for a double feature. Movie screenings can change weekly, so be sure to check out what’s showing on The Showboat’s website before heading out. This hidden gem is a great way to beef up the old movie-going experience for the whole family.
