We are committed to making your move as painless as possible. People tend to get overwhelmed with the mere thought of moving much less moving with children.
At Ameritex Movers, we believe keeping your children involved and having an open line of communication is the key to a seamless, cry-free, tantrum-free move. From toddlers to teenagers, every child can be involved in the moving process in some shape or form. Below is a list of helpful tips Ameritex Movers has acquired through our years of experience.
1. Talk with your kids
Depending on how old your children are at the time of the move, this may be their first life-changing event. This is the time to get them mentally prepared for the “Big Day.” This is also the time to ask questions and get some insight as to what their concerns are.
Each child has his or her own worries about moving, so make notes if you must and remember to talk on their level. Try to see things from their point of view. Look at the positives. A chance to make new friends, decorate their room, and new places to hang out.
It’s hard to make big changes in your life, especially when you are young, so we know that by keeping them looking forward to the future, is the best distraction from the though aspects of moving.
2. Get your children involved
Get creative and turn packing into a playful event for your kids. Smaller children can draw on their boxes for “labeling”. Teenagers can pack their own rooms. Kids want to feel like they’re part of the process as much as anyone else. You’ll be amazed at how fast they will fill up the “Donations” box by pulling at their heart strings. Teach them to donate rather than throw away.
3. Keep only a few toys out
Speaking of toys… The toy boxes should be packed and available for swapping out toys if needed. If you have time to make a checklist of the toys or a voucher system, do it. Not only will it minimize toys to worry about, but you and your kids will know where that one-armed doll is at, at all times! You can even take it one step further and appoint one of your kids as the Foreman to handle the toy check-ins and check-outs.
4. Keep moving an everyday topic
Though this is part of number 1, this is a topic by itself too. We suggest to bring up the topic of moving as early as possible so there are no big last-minute surprises in your kids’ life. As time nears and everyone is packing, keep the topic of moving fresh in your children’s minds.
Talk about each stage of the moving cycle so they will understand and reduce anxiety.
Talking about the move, the many steps of preparing, and the actual move will also assist with them being more productive during the whole process. Also, make sure to talk about the Houston movers who will come to your home. Prepare household items for moving day.
5. HAVE FUN!
Make this experience fun and exciting for your children. Children watch and mimic everything we do (great for us, right?!). If we are having fun, they will have fun too. Preparing your kids in advance not only benefits them, but benefits you too. As the parent, you have plenty to stress about, so don’t add moving with your kids as a stress factor too.
Moving doesn’t have to be stressful! At Ameritex Movers we want you to have a positive and fun moving adventure. Let us help you take your family where you want to go!
